Amante Italian Cuisine / Bob’s Pizza, Deerfield Beach FL
Deerfield Beach reminds me a lot of a typical New Jersey beach town – minus the boardwalk. While a new public beach area is under construction, that’s not deterring anyone from enjoying the sun, sand and restaurants around the area. At the entrance to the public beach you’ll find plenty of places to eat from the Whale’s Rib (featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives), JB’s on the Beach, Flanigan’s, Cafe Med and more including pizza joint / red sauce hangout Bob’s Pizza also known as Amante Italian Cuisine.
Pizza joint by day, Italian restaurant AND pizza joint by night, Bob’s has been reeling in the locals since the 70’s. With indoor and outdoor seating, live entertainment almost every night and a lively, often boisterous crowd, Bob’s is perfect for this beach area.
Don’t expect gourmet cuisine here. I liken Bob’s to a mall pizza shop. A good place to get a slice (I happen to like Umberto’s pizza better and it’s across the street) and a beer or take the family for some pasta and not end up with a big bill. Food is average. Prices are average, although I noticed recently the prices went up and one thing that turns me off – the bar is often times riddled with patrons who have had more than their share of alcohol and become obnoxious towards those who are not one of the “regulars.” It wasn’t always like that, but I’ve noticed it the past few times I was there. In fact, I ended up not finishing my dinner at the bar due to an intoxicated patron sitting next to me who couldn’t keep himself on the barstool.
I usually start off the meal with a garden salad, which is a very generous portion of assorted greens and your standard salad vegetables. As someone who always asks for “extra dressing” on my salad, Bob’s is the only place I go to where they actually give you “EXTRA DRESSING.” Big plus for me! The Minestrone Soup is also one of my favorites. Perfect for dipping the fresh baked rolls into and sopping up the broth. My favorite item on the menu is the Chicken Martini. Think Chicken Francaise kicked up a notch with some vodka in the sauce and served with potatoes and carrots. Generous portion and served with a side of pasta.
I used to make Bob’s a weekly stop, but recently it fell off my list of restaurants I frequently visit mainly because of the patrons at the bar. Now, who knows if you’ll experience the same thing I have a couple of times, so don’t let that discourage you from visiting, but it is worth noting.
